I’m kinda annoyed because my school has this thing called Muck Up day where basically we get to dress up under some theme to make us feel better before we get thrown into exams and I was all for a theme that meant we could basically have loads of options because let’s be honest, school does enough of making us feel like we’ve been put on a conveyor belt so we come out all looking the same and individuality is more fun. But okay, I saw that the vote wasn’t going my way on that and that we were going to do some theme that meant we mostly looked the same, and the choice was between forensics and cones (!?) and penguins and to me the obvious choice was forensics because it’s cheap, and you can do zombies/plague outbreak/whatever and fucking penguins won okay, like what do I do now they’re freaking £15 for something I’m never going to wear again and on ebay they have some animal costumes that look cool like a flying unicorn or a racoon and the penguin costumes are so boring, like couldn’t we have done animals as our theme and then I would have bought a freaking flying unicorn costume and felt so much better about spending £15.

Sometimes I wonder if physics is the right thing for me. Not because I don’t love it, I find it fascinating and I love learning more about certain aspects within it but like in school there are things that I think if I had more time and there wasn’t an exam at the end of it, I could understand it and even like that part of it, but because there’s all this stress over having to know it in order to pass an exam to get into uni, I just don’t actually get it properly and it’s something that I’m forced to learn, something that is like… something to get through as quickly as possible to get to the good stuff. And sometimes I’ll like say something like ‘oh I hate electricity’ or ‘vectors’ and roll my eyes, and in the latter case it’s because I haven’t had a chance to look over them properly and understand all the rules, the former is the case mentioned above, and one of my teachers will go off on this long thing about how ‘if you want to do physics at uni, you have to understand vectors. What do you think particle physics is all about? What do you think CERN does all the time? And you want to be a physicist?’ and it’s like YEAH I FUCKING GET THAT jesus I was making a small joke, vectors aren’t that bad I just haven’t gone over them yet and you think I don’t fucking know that these thing are important for physics at uni? You don’t think I’ve seen how much of the course is electricity and I’ve tried to understand it but because of all this fucking school I don’t have the time to actually get a good grasp on it, and I just have to hope I know enough to pass some exam so that later I can sit down and learn it, without all this stress?

Like sometimes it feels like physics has become something that everyone knows I love and it’s like forced upon me to be good at everything in it, and to get an A* and go to uni, and sometimes I wonder if I want that. Sometimes when I imagine my future, I’m not a physicist any more. I’m a writer, or a polyglot, or a mother (which is rather surprising considering I never want to give birth), but rarely do I actually see myself working in CERN any more.

This is why I hate school because it just makes me question myself and it makes me feel that all the free time I have is not to be spent on learning new things but forcing myself to study to pass some exam, to show that I have certain knowledge of stuff, and there’s no room for creativity in a mark scheme. There are many times I’ve wished that I could have continued German and Japanese, history, learnt Politics and more, because the only reason I didn’t do those things was because I knew there was an exam at the end of it that I couldn’t pass. I miss German a lot, but I hear my friends stressing about oral exams and prose exams and I remember why I didn’t do it for A level, but that doesn’t make me miss the language itself less.

I just… I think I’ve decided that however these exams turn out, I’ll be happy because at the end of it, I have over a year to do for once what I want to do. And maybe I’ll decide/be forced not to go to uni. Maybe I’ll realise I do want to go to uni. Maybe I’ll realise my true life passion is/isn’t physics and I’ll do what needs to be done accordingly. But for once I’ll have the free time to actually sort all these thoughts out in my head without the pressure of school and exams and life and maybe for once I can just relax for five minutes without feeling guilty.

I really hope so.

Just a little detail worth pointing out: All forms of blood are inferior to living human blood for a vampire. Benny hasn’t had living human blood in a LONG time. He just bit into a living being but didn’t properly feed, and his adrenaline and bloodlust are jacked. He’s accountable to no one down here, they don’t get out unless he shows them how, and Sammy boy here - this giant throbbing bundle of human blood - seriously fucked his life, his hometown, his only friend, and damned near got him and his kin killed. And Benny doesn’t just restrain himself from attacking, which would have been impressive enough.

His fangs retract.
